MVP is a nonprofit Medicare Advantage plan in New York and Vermont. It offers Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) and Paid Provider Organization (PPO) options, prescription drug coverage, and additional benefits like fitness, hearing aids, and telehealth.

MVP plans have a network of over 60,000 healthcare professionals. The company serves more than 700,000 customers, with plans that are highly rated by both Medicare and the National Committee for Quality Assurance.

In 2024, MVP offers many different Medicare Advantage plan options. These plans include extra coverage for services like telehealth, fitness benefits, and prescription drug coverage, among others.

MVP is a private insurance company offering Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans. These plans must offer the same coverage as Medicare Part A (hospital insurance) and Medicare Part B (health insurance), known together as Original Medicare.

However, unlike Original Medicare, which is the same nationwide, Medicare Advantage plans are specific to where you live. For MVP, these states are New York and Vermont.

MVP offers two different types of Medicare Advantage plans, though not all plans are available in all counties.

We’ll take a closer look at each type below.

MVP HMO-POS plans

A Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) is a common type of health insurance plan. HMO plans work with a network of healthcare professionals for coverage. This means you’ll typically need to see doctors, therapists, and other professionals who are in your plan’s network.

MVP offers all HMOs as HMO Point-of-Service (HMO-POS) plans. This type of plan allows more flexibility than a traditional HMO, with no need for referrals from a primary care physician (PCP). You can also see out-of-network professionals, but you will have a higher copay.

MVP PPO plans

MVP also offers Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) plans. Like an HMO, a PPO has a network, but it is similar to an HMO-POS in that you have some freedom to see out-of-network providers.

With a PPO offered by MVP, you’ll pay less to see in-network professionals. Visits with out-of-network professionals will come at a higher cost. For example, your copay for an in-network doctor’s visit might be $10, but your copay for an out-of-network doctor’s visit might be $50.

All of MVP’s Medicare Advantage plans offer Part D prescription drug coverage. Some plans allow you to opt out of this coverage.

You may decide to opt out if you’re already covered by a spouse’s or employer’s plan, or if you prefer to get this coverage through another company.

MVP does not offer separate, stand-alone Medicare Part D plans.

MVP offers Medicare Advantage plans in several counties in New York and Vermont.

The MVP Medicare Advantage plans that are available to you will depend on the county where you live. Services MVP plans may cover beyond the standard coverage of Original Medicare and include:

  • emergency out-of-network care
  • emergency care when traveling abroad
  • free preventive care, including screenings and vaccinations
  • free membership to SilverSneakers
  • free meal delivery after hospital stays
  • hearing aid discounts
  • vision benefits powered with EyeMed and glasses allowance
  • ability to earn a rewards gift card of up to $200 for completing health and wellness activities
  • $0 copays for telehealth visits
  • free health management services, including prescription reviews and wellness programs
  • discounts on over-the-counter medicines and health-related items with most plans
  • free transportation for up to 12 one-way rides to medical appointments with some plans
  • optional extra dental coverage

The cost of your plan will depend on your county and the plan you choose. The monthly premium will be in addition to the standard Part B premium.

In the table below, we’ve compiled a sampling of costs for some of MVP’s Medicare Advantage plans in a few counties. You can explore more precise costs with or without Part D with Medicare’s plan comparison tool.
