Augtyro (repotrectinib) is a prescription oral capsule used to treat certain types of non-small cell lung cancer in adults. Augtyro can interact with other drugs and some supplements, including birth control pills and St. John’s wort.
An interaction can occur because one substance causes another substance to have a different effect than expected. Interactions can also occur if you have certain health conditions.
Before you start taking Augtyro, tell your doctor and pharmacist about any prescription, over-the-counter, or other drugs you take. Sharing this information with them may help prevent possible interactions. (To learn whether Augtyro interacts with herbs or vitamins or supplements, see the “Are there other interactions with Augtyro?” section below.)
If you have questions about drug interactions that may affect you, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.

Interaction with certain antibiotics
Augtyro can interact with certain antibiotics, which are used to treat bacterial infections.
Examples of antibiotics that can interact with Augtyro include:
- ciprofloxacin (Cipro)
- clarithromycin
- erythromycin (Erytab, others)
What could happen
Some antibiotics, such as those listed above, can reduce the action of certain enzymes that help remove Augtyro from your body. Taking one of these antibiotics with Augtyro can make Augtyro build up in your body. This can raise your risk of side effects from Augtyro, such as dizziness and numbness or tingling feelings.
What you can do
If you have a bacterial infection while you’re taking Augtyro, your doctor will typically avoid prescribing antibiotics that interact with Augtyro. Instead, they’ll likely prescribe an antibiotic that doesn’t interact with it.
If you have questions about taking Augtyro with antibiotics, talk with your doctor or pharmacist.
Interaction with certain seizure medications
Augtyro can interact with certain seizure medications, which are used to treat seizure disorders such as epilepsy. Some are also used for bipolar disorder and certain types of nerve pain.
Examples of seizure medications that can interact with Augtyro include:
What could happen
Some seizure medications, such as those listed above, can increase the action of certain enzymes that help clear Augtyro from your body. Taking Augtyro with one of these seizure medications can lower the amount of Augtyro in your body, which can make it less effective.
What you can do
Your doctor will typically avoid prescribing Augtyro with a seizure drug that interacts with it. If you take one of these medications, your doctor may have you switch to a different seizure medication before you start taking Augtyro. If this isn’t possible, your doctor may recommend a treatment other than Augtyro for your lung cancer.
Interaction with hormonal birth control
Augtyro can interact with birth control that contains estrogen or progesterone hormones.
Examples of hormonal birth control include:
- combination birth control pills, such as ethinyl estradiol/desogestrel (Cyclessa, others) and ethinyl estradiol/drospirenone (Yaz, others)
- progesterone-only pills (minipills), such as norethindrone (Camilla, others)
- implants, such as etonogestrel (Nexplanon)
- patches, such as ethinyl estradiol/levonorgestrel (Twirla, others)
- vaginal rings, such as ethinyl estradiol/etonogestrel (Nuvaring, others)
What could happen
Taking Augtyro with the hormonal birth control types listed above can make the birth control less effective at preventing pregnancy.
It’s important to note that if you become pregnant while taking Augtyro, the drug could cause harm to a fetus.
What you can do
If you’re able to become pregnant, you should use a nonhormonal form of birth control while taking Augtyro. Examples include condoms and diaphragms. You should continue using this for 2 months after your last dose of Augtyro. Talk with your doctor about which forms of birth control may be right for you.
If you’re male and you have a sexual partner who can become pregnant, you should use condoms during your Augtyro treatment and for 4 months after your last dose.
If you have questions about taking Augtyro with birth control, talk with your doctor.
Note: In this article, we use the term “male” to refer to someone’s sex assigned at birth. For information about the difference between sex and gender, see this article.
Augtyro may have other interactions. They could occur with supplements, foods, vaccines, or even lab tests. See below for details. Note that the information below does not include all other possible interactions with Augtyro.

Augtyro interactions with herbs
Augtyro can interact with St. John’s wort, an herbal supplement used to ease symptoms of depression and other conditions.
St. John’s wort can increase the action of certain enzymes that help remove Augtyro from your body. Taking St. John’s wort with Augtyro can lower the level of Augtyro in your body. This can make Augtyro less effective.
Your doctor will likely recommend that you don’t take St. John’s wort with Augtyro. You can ask them about alternatives.
There are currently no reports of Augtyro interacting with other herbs. But this doesn’t mean that interactions with other herbs won’t be recognized in the future.
For this reason, it’s still important to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking any of these products while taking Augtyro.
