We’ve tested and retested Cornbread Hemp’s CBD gummies since 2022, and it consistently remains one of our top gummy picks.

We’ve tried Cornbread’s slate of full-spectrum organic cannabidiol (CBD) products and even visited the farm.

The brand — not just the gummies — consistently ranks among our favorites. Its lab testing results are up to date, the products are organic, and many of our testers have noticed improvements with sleep, stress, pain, and general anxiety after using the products.

The brand credits Kentucky’s limestone-filtered water, rich soil, and agricultural microclimate for the quality and strength of its full-spectrum products, which are U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) certified organic and made with hemp flowers only — no stems, stalks, leaves, or seeds.

First, it’s worth noting that there isn’t a ton of strong scientific research to support that CBD gummies (or CBD in any form) can directly improve sleep, anxiety, or pain — especially when related to specific health conditions.

With that in mind, the effectiveness of CBD tends to vary from person to person, and much of the evidence tends to be anecdotal.

These CBD gummies are by no means a magic potion. Rather, our testers have found them to be a supplemental tool.

Cornbread Hemp CBD gummies tl;dr

  • certified U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) organic
  • third-party lab tested
  • come with a 30-day guarantee
  • made by a family-owned and crowdfunded company
  • are full-spectrum, meaning they can contain up to 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)

They can help with daily stress, but trust the process

Testers have found the Cornbread Hemp gummies to be helpful for calming racing thoughts, though it might take a few days to notice effects.

“I followed the directions on the label and took these CBD gummies twice a day, once in the morning and once at night, for a week,” said Sydney Samuels, a Healthline team member.

“After a few days of taking the CBD gummies as recommended, I noticed feeling less stressed, especially during the workday. Though I noticed very little (if any) effects the first couple of days, by the third day I definitely noticed feeling less stressed throughout the day.”

They tend to help us sleep better, but they’re not necessarily for more aggressive sleep disorders

In our 2024 testing, reviewer Heather Riesebeck who has had difficulty with sleep for about 10 years and was recently diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, did not find that taking these gummies regularly had a big effect on her sleep, positive or negative. This was after taking at least 1 gummy daily for 3 weeks.

But in previous rounds of testing, reviewers without a diagnosed sleep disorder found them beneficial for inducing a drowsier state and sense of calm to take their mind off daily stressors that might have kept them awake longer.

“[The gummies] made me drowsy pretty quickly, within an hour or two. Over the course of 3 consecutive days, I had 1 or 2 gummies at night and found I felt sleepier faster or sooner than I normally would,” said Candice Abellon, a Healthline editor.

Abellon did not change her nighttime habits other than taking the gummies and had the same amount of screen time as she normally would. “I found I also slept through the night without waking up until morning. So overall, the gummies were useful for me for sleep.”

They unanimously win in the taste department

Gummies tend to be one of the most popular forms of CBD because they taste good. But that’s not a guarantee for all CBD gummies. We’ve found that some are more flavored than others, some are too sweet, and some still have a strong hemp flavor that cuts through the sugar.

So far, we’ve tried Cornbread Hemp’s gummies in Berry and Peach, and they consistently receive good remarks for taste. They’re dusted with some sugar, but they don’t cross the line into too sweet.

“The Cornbread Berry Gummies were some of the best tasting CBD gummies I’ve had so far,” said Jamie Elmer, a Healthline editor, in our most recent testing. “The berry taste is deep and fruity and manages to mask the CBD and THC taste really well. It also has a really good texture that melts in your mouth. The sugar crystals aren’t too much.”

“I typically don’t like peach flavored things. However, the peach taste of the gummies was very natural and subtle, unlike typical super sugary peach candies that I have had. After reading more about this product, I learned that the flavoring comes from real organic peaches,” said Riesebeck.

Another tester found the berry ones reminded her of jam, with just a little bit of the medicinal flavor. A third tester also called out some slight hemp flavor but said it wasn’t too strong. “The berry flavor comes through nicely.”

They are vegetarian-friendly

Perhaps one of the biggest pros to these gummies is that they are gelatin-free, so vegetarians who typically avoid gummies for this reason can enjoy.

“As a vegetarian, I often have a hard time finding gummy products that do not contain gelatin. These gummies checked that box for me and still had a great texture,” said Samuels.

They come in quality packaging

It may not be the first thing you think about when you order CBD gummies, but multiple testers have commented on Cornbread Hemp’s packaging, which is a recyclable glass jar.

“The lid on the jar is incredibly high quality. The bottle is high quality as well, so it seems to keep them fresh,” said Jamie Elmer, who is currently testing the gummies for a more extended period to review how they help her with anxiety.

“When I opened the box, I was impressed with the aesthetic packaging. There wasn’t a lot of wasted packing materials like you often get, which I appreciated. There was an informational card, string stuffing, and the gummies,” said Riesebeck.

Before we get to any hands-on testing (which we did twice in 2022 and twice in 2024 for Cornbread’s gummies), we vet all CBD brands and products based on criteria we think are good indicators of safety, quality, and transparency.

Cornbread Hemp shipped its first products in April 2019. Although newer to the CBD commerce world, the company is rapidly making a name for itself with organic hemp and a flower-only approach to CBD.

From its start as a renegade farm to leading the organic full-spectrum CBD market, Cornbread Hemp has a good story to tell. Start with the best climate, soil, and water, and you’ll end up with the best hemp. That’s the thinking behind the brand.

The family-owned company was launched by cousins Jim Higdon and Eric Zipperle. They wanted to be the first CBD brand to offer USDA organic CBD oils sourced from Kentucky-grown hemp.

Higdon’s interest in hemp started long before he co-founded Cornbread Hemp. In 2012, he wrote a book about the Cornbread Mafia. This was a group of Kentucky-based Vietnam war veterans who, in the 1970s and 1980s, became a network of 70 outlaw farmers running an extensive illegal cannabis organization.

Higdon’s research and reporting on the eventual bust of the Cornbread Mafia led to the inspiration for the Cornbread Hemp name.

All Cornbread Hemp products are made with full-spectrum CBD. Full-spectrum CBD contains a small amount of THC, while broad-spectrum and CBD isolate don’t.

Cornbread Hemp is not accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB), but it has an A+ rating based on customer feedback. At the time of publication, Cornbread Hemp hasn’t been involved in any lawsuits or received a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning letter about any of its products.

Right now, the brand’s site shows over 10,000 product reviews. Product ratings on the website with under 5 stars are buried pretty deep under the glowing remarks, and there’s no way to filter the reviews by rating.

Cornbread Hemp is made with Kentucky-grown hemp, and the brand shows a commitment to making high quality, organic, full-spectrum CBD products.

Flower only

Although CBD and other cannabinoids are found in all parts of the cannabis plant (except the seeds), they’re found in the highest concentrations in the flowers. Additionally, some people report that the flower has a better flavor than the other parts of the plant.

Cornbread Hemp uses only the flower, which the brand says lends the final product a “delicate, floral flavor.”

Organic ingredients

On the company website, ingredients are listed in full for every product. The brand partners with organic hemp farmers in Kentucky and uses organic sugarcane ethanol to extract CBD oil, which means the finished product doesn’t have the harsh bitterness commonly associated with many full-spectrum CBD oils.

Cornbread Hemp was also the first CBD brand in Kentucky to receive USDA organic certification. That’s unusual in the CBD industry, where not many brands are certified organic.

Third-party testing

Third-party certificates of analysis (COAs) from ISO 17025 certified labs are readily available on Cornbread Hemp’s website. You can search by batch number if you want to find results for your specific product, or you can review the COAs for all products before making a purchase.

The COAs are comprehensive, offering:

  • the cannabinoid profile, including CBD and THC amounts
  • contaminants, like:
    • foreign matter
    • pesticides
    • mycotoxins
    • residual solvents
    • heavy metals
    • microbes

Some COAs also include a terpene profile, and they all include the date and batch number.

Additionally, Cornbread Hemp claims that the facility where the products are made is third-party certified to follow the FDA’s current good manufacturing practices.

Consumer education

The company prioritizes education. The website is filled with information about Cornbread Hemp products and questions relating to usage, dosage, effects, and more.

Pricing and discounts

Most Cornbread Hemp CBD products are moderately priced or expensive when compared to other available products. However, unlike many other brands, most of the products are USDA certified organic, and they’re all made with flower only.

The company offers a rewards program and a discount program. Anyone can join the rewards program to earn points when they shop.

Meanwhile, the discount program is designed to make CBD more accessible to everyone. Military personnel, veterans and dependents, first responders, healthcare workers, teachers, students, and others who qualify can access discount codes every time they shop.

Additionally, Cornbread Hemp offers subscription discounts. If you like a product, you can save 25% by subscribing and scheduling your order to arrive every 4, 6, or 8 weeks.

Customer service

Cornbread Hemp offers a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. If customers are unhappy for any reason, they can return products within 30 days of delivery for a full refund (minus shipping costs). Exchanges are also available.

Before trying CBD, it’s a good idea to talk with a qualified healthcare professional. That’s particularly important if you’re currently taking medications that could interact with CBD, including those with a grapefruit warning.

Research from 2017 suggests CBD is otherwise safe, but some people may still experience side effects. In most cases, side effects include:

  • fatigue
  • diarrhea
  • changes in weight or appetite

These side effects may be more likely if you’re pairing CBD with high fat meals.

Research from 2020 found that meals high in fat can significantly increase CBD blood concentrations, meaning your body may be better able to absorb CBD when it’s paired with a high fat meal.

Cornbread Hemp is known for its curated selection of full-spectrum CBD products, most of which are certified USDA organic. They’re also made with hemp flower only.

According to the brand, that makes for a higher quality and better-tasting CBD extract that’s free of unnecessary plant matter.

CBD products from Cornbread Hemp may support healthy sleep cycles, stress relief, pain relief, and recovery.

Cornbread Hemp offers several products that are designed to support a healthy sleep cycle.

Cornbread Hemp batch tests every product with a third-party lab to confirm that product labels reflect corrects amounts of CBD and THC. However, CBD laws vary from state to state, so it’s important to know what’s legal in your state.

There is some confusion about the terms hemp oil, hempseed oil, and CBD oil.

While hemp oil and CBD oil are different names for the same product, hempseed oil is something different. It comes from the seeds of the Cannabis sativa plant and does not contain CBD. Instead, it has nutrients, fatty acids, and other bioactive compounds.

For pain relief, research suggests that hemp oil (not hempseed oil) and CBD oil may offer benefits.

There are myriad CBD companies on the market today, and it’s not easy to stand out in the crowd.

But with a commitment to flower-only, full-spectrum, USDA certified organic CBD products — and a willingness to stand behind those products with a no-questions-asked, 30-day return policy — Cornbread Hemp manages to do just that.

Is CBD legal? The 2018 Farm Bill removed hemp from the legal definition of marijuana in the Controlled Substances Act. This made some hemp-derived CBD products with less than 0.3% THC legal at the federal level. However, CBD products containing more than 0.3% THC still fall under the legal definition of marijuana, making them illegal at the federal level. Some states have legalized CBD, so be sure to check state laws, especially when traveling. Also, keep in mind that the FDA has not approved nonprescription CBD products, and some products may be inaccurately labeled.
